How to Unblock Sim after Becoming Active Filer?

Many non-filers in Pakistan recently had their mobile SIM cards blocked by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for not filing income tax returns. But fear not, if you’ve since filed your return, here’s how to get your SIM card reactivated.

Two Ways to Restore Your Blocked SIM:

  1. Quick and Easy: FBR Helpline: The simplest method is to contact the FBR helpline and inform them that you’ve filed your tax return. Once they verify your information, your SIM card should be restored within 48 hours.

  2. Visit the Concerned Commissioner Inland Revenue: This option takes a bit longer but can be helpful if the helpline method doesn’t work. Here’s what you need to do:

    • Locate the Regional Tax Office with jurisdiction over your area.
    • Visit the office and inform them that you’ve filed your tax return and want your SIM card restored.

Who Can Restore Your SIM?

The decision to restore your SIM rests with either the FBR or the Commissioner Inland Revenue having jurisdiction over your tax filing. This generally happens when:

  • Tax Return Filed: You’ve successfully filed your income tax return after the initial SIM block.
  • Not Liable to File: It’s determined that you weren’t actually obligated to file a tax return in the first place.

Important Note:

According to the FBR, your SIM card will remain blocked until it’s officially restored by either the FBR or the relevant Commissioner Inland Revenue.

Taking Care of Your Tax Obligations:

This situation highlights the importance of filing your income tax returns if you’re legally required to do so. By staying compliant with tax regulations, you can avoid inconveniences like SIM card blockages and ensure you’re contributing your fair share to Pakistan’s revenue.
