How to Reset Your FBR IRIS Password Online in Pakistan – Complete 2025 Guide

Forgot your FBR IRIS password or it expired after 60 days? Learn how to reset it easily using your CNIC, email, and mobile, or update missing details through FBR e-enrollment or RTO.

For taxpayers in Pakistan, managing your Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) IRIS account is essential for filing income tax returns, updating personal details, and staying compliant. As of 2025, FBR has implemented a new 60-day password expiration policy, which means your IRIS account password will automatically expire every 60 days. If your password expires, you’ll be prompted to set a new one — but you must know your current password to reset it directly.

In this guide, we will walk you through how to reset your FBR password, what to do if you don’t receive the reset email/SMS, and how to proceed if your registered email or mobile number is missing or inaccessible.

FBR’s Password Expiry Policy

FBR has enhanced its cybersecurity protocols by making it mandatory for all IRIS users to update their passwords every 60 days. If you attempt to log in with an expired password, you’ll be redirected to a password change page — but only if you still remember your current password. You can update your expired password online and free by following these simple steps.

  • Visit FBR IRIS 2.0
  • Enter your CNIC and recent password
  • Hit Enter button or click on Login
  • A password reset pop-up windows will be open.
  • Enter you Old Password (current but expired)
  • Enter a strong new password that adheres to FBR’s password guidelines.
  • Confirm the new password by entering it again and click on Save button.

A confirmation message will indicate that your password has been successfully changed. Your password will be updated and active for next 60-days. If you’ve forgotten your password or no longer have access to your registered mobile number or email address, there are alternate methods to recover access to your account, discussed below.

How to Reset Your FBR Password

If you remember your old password which is not yet expired, resetting it is a straightforward process:

Log in to Your FBR Account:

  • Visit the IRIS 2.0.
  • Enter your credentials (CNIC number and current password) to access your account.
  • Once logged in, select the Change Password option in top right corner inside profile icon.

Create a New Password:

  • A password reset pop-up windows will be open.
  • Enter you current Password
  • Enter a strong new password that adheres to FBR’s password guidelines.
  • Confirm the new password by entering it again.
  • Click on the Save botton to update your new password.

A confirmation message will indicate that your password has been successfully changed.

Steps to Follow If You’ve Lost Your Password

If you’ve forgotten your FBR password and want to use the “Forgot Password” feature, ensure you have access to both your email and mobile number registered on your FBR profile. Follow these steps to reset it:

Go to the Login Page:

  • Navigate to the FBR’s “Forgot Password” link.
  • Enter your registered User ID.
  • Registered Cell Number with name and network name.
  • Verify the captcha
  • Click on the submit button.

Enter Verification Codes:

  • If both mobile and email match the details in your tax profile, FBR will send verification codes to your registered email address and mobile number.
  • Input the received codes into the respective fields on the password recovery page.
  • Click on Verify botton

Set a New Password:

  • Once verified, you will be prompted to create a new password.
  • Enter and submit your new password.
  • Submit the new password to reset your account credentials.

No Email or Mobile Number in Your FBR Profile

In many cases, especially where FBR has issued the registration automatically, taxpayers may see ******** instead of their email or cell number in taxpayer profile inquiry.

If this is the case, it means your mobile/email were never entered in your tax profile, and you’ll need to update your record first.

Step-by-Step: E-Enroll Your Profile (Update Mobile & Email)

  • Visit e-Enrollment on FBR’s IRIS 2.0
  • Enter your 13-digit CNIC hit Enter button.
  • System will fetch your Full Name.
  • Select your Mobile Service Provider.
  • Enter your Cell Number and confirm it.
  • Enter and confirm your Email Address.
  • Enter the Captcha and click on Submit.
  • FBR will send verification codes to your updated email address and mobile number.
  • Input the received codes into the respective fields.
  • Click on Verify botton

Once submitted, your details will be recorded and the password will be sent to both email and mobile. If you don’t get password on email/sms after e-Enrollment, use the “Forgot Password” feature as guided above.

If your profile shows only one contact detail (mobile or email) and the other is ********, you still need to update your record at FBR. The reset feature only works when both are updated and match your FBR profile.

Understanding Your FBR Profile

Your FBR profile contains critical information about your tax and financial activities. It is important to review and maintain accurate details to avoid discrepancies. The profile typically includes:

  • Personal Information: Name, address, and contact details
  • Bank Details: Account numbers and associated banks
  • Source of Income: Employment, business, or other income streams
  • Registered Businesses: Details of any businesses registered under your name

Keeping this information accurate ensures smooth interactions with FBR’s online system, whether for tax filing, business registration, or accessing related services.

Final Thoughts

Resetting your FBR IRIS password in Pakistan is a straightforward process — if your email and mobile are correctly updated. The new 60-day password expiry means you’ll need to stay on top of your login details to avoid disruptions in accessing FBR services.

We recommend:

  • Keeping your registered email and mobile updated.
  • Using a strong and memorable password.
  • Resetting your password immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access.
