Capital Gains Tax and its rates depends on the holding period of the property. If the property was originally bought after July 2024 then then the rates are 15%.

However, if it was purchased before July 2024 then it will depend on when exactly the property was bought. You can see the capital gains tax rates for more details.

As per the Pakistan Federal Budget 2024-25, here is the summary of Capital Gains Tax (CGT) on inherited property:

 * Tax Trigger: Inheritance itself is not taxed. You only pay CGT when you sell the inherited property.

 * Holding Period: The time you own the property is calculated from the date the original owner (deceased) bought it, not when you inherited it.

In short: If the original owner bought the property more than 6 years ago (and it's a plot) or 4 years ago (for a house), a Filer pays 0% tax on the sale. For newer properties, Filers pay a flat 15%.
