I receive remittances from freelance work abroad. Does converting them to PKR trigger any tax?

No, simply converting foreign remittances into PKR does not trigger any tax in Pakistan.
Tax depends on the nature of income, not the currency conversion.

If your freelance income is remitted through proper banking channels, it is usually treated as export of services. and taxed accordingly.
