How to Apply for Greenfield Status in Pakistan?

A Greenfield Status pertains to a “greenfield industrial undertaking,” which is defined as:

Definition of Greenfield Industrial Undertaking (Section 27A)

(a) A new industrial undertaking that meets the following conditions:

1. Unutilized Land:
   • The undertaking is set up on land that has never been used for any commercial, industrial, or manufacturing activity.
   • The land must be free from constraints imposed by prior work.
2. New Construction:
   • The facility is built from scratch without demolishing, revamping, renovating, upgrading, remodeling, or modifying any existing structure, facility, or plant.
3. Independent Setup:
   • It is not formed by splitting up or restructuring an existing undertaking.
   • It does not involve transferring machinery, plants, or buildings from an industrial setup that existed in Pakistan before the commencement of the new business.
   • It is not an expansion project.
4. Novel Technology:
   • The undertaking uses processes or technologies not previously employed in Pakistan, as approved by the Engineering Development Board.

(b) The undertaking must be approved by the Commissioner upon submission of an application in the prescribed form, accompanied by the required documentation and any additional documents the Commissioner may request.

Note: This definition has been applicable since July 1, 2019.

How to Apply for Greenfield Status

To apply for Greenfield Status under Income Tax, follow these steps:

1. Log in to IRIS:
   • Access your IRIS account.
   • Navigate to the Registration tab.
   • Select the application titled Greenfield Status – (Income Tax).
2. Attach Required Documents:
   • Upload all required documents as proof of eligibility.
3. Complete Verification:
   • Submit a signed verification statement (see template below).
   • Finalize the application by entering the PIN associated with your IRIS account.
