Islamabad, Pakistan: The President of the Federal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), Atif Ikram Sheikh, has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline by 30 days.
Sheikh cited technical difficulties and delays in the FBR’s online system as reasons for the request. He emphasized the need for the FBR to improve the efficiency and user-friendliness of the system to facilitate timely filing. ProPakistani
The FPCCI also highlighted the impact of the delayed issuance of return forms on taxpayers. The forms were released later than the stipulated deadlines, causing inconvenience to many.
Sheikh stressed the importance of a simplified tax filing process and urged the FBR to align its system with international best practices. He emphasized that the government should focus on reconciliation for salaried individuals who have already paid their taxes through source deductions.
By extending the deadline and addressing the technical issues, the FBR can improve compliance and ensure a fair and efficient tax system for taxpayers.
