Islamabad, Pakistan: Tax advisers have requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline to November 30, 2024.
Advocate Supreme Court Javed Iqbal Qazi, in a communication to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighted that the FBR has not disclosed the number of returns filed by taxpayers as of September 30, 2024. Business Recorder
While the FBR has set a target of 5 to 5.5 million returns, only 3.7 million have been filed so far. Many taxpayers have faced difficulties with the IRIS system, including slow performance and data loss.
Qazi argued that the current financial situation of taxpayers makes it difficult for them to meet the October 14 deadline. He emphasized the need for an extension to ensure fair treatment and compliance.
The FBR is urged to consider this request and take steps to address the challenges faced by taxpayers in filing their returns.
