Tax Revenue Falls Short of November Tax Collection Target by Rs166bn

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a tax collection of Rs837 billion for November 2024, falling short of its monthly target of Rs1,003 billion by Rs166 billion.

For the first five months of the fiscal year 2024-25, the FBR collected a total of Rs4,277 billion against a target of Rs4,639 billion, marking a cumulative shortfall of Rs362 billion for the July-November period.

Sources indicated that the November collection figure might see a slight upward revision as final numbers are compiled on Saturday. However, the shortfall underscores the challenges faced by the FBR in meeting ambitious revenue targets amid an economic environment marked by slower growth and inflationary pressures.

The shortfall could pose challenges for the government’s fiscal management, particularly in meeting International Monetary Fund (IMF) obligations and sustaining development expenditures.
