Security Breach as Non-Duty Paid Cigarettes Vanish from Multan RTO

Multan, Pakistan: The Multan Tax Bar Association (MTBA) has raised serious concerns over a recent theft incident at the Regional Tax Office (RTO) in Multan. Approximately 300 cartons of non-duty paid cigarettes, valued at Rs25-30 million, have mysteriously disappeared from the RTO’s premises.

The MTBA has called for a thorough investigation into the matter and has urged the FBR to take immediate action to address the security lapses.

The association has suggested the formation of a committee comprising FBR officials, representatives from the business community, and civil society to conduct a transparent inquiry. Business Recorder

The MTBA has also demanded that an FIR be lodged against those responsible for the theft and that the FBR should take steps to secure the remaining stock of seized cigarettes. The association has recommended installing surveillance cameras throughout the RTO premises to enhance security.

This incident highlights the need for stricter security measures at government warehouses and offices to prevent such losses and ensure the integrity of tax collection efforts.
