Lahore, Pakistan: Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has called for a fairer tax structure for the retail sector in Pakistan. He noted that tier-1 retailers bear a disproportionate tax burden compared to smaller retailers.
The Minister emphasized the need for reforms to create a more level playing field and promote business growth across the retail sector. He highlighted the significant role of the retail sector in the national economy and its potential for job creation and export growth.
The Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by the retail sector, including the high percentage of informal businesses and the need for modernization and regulatory reforms.
He outlined several initiatives undertaken by the Punjab government to support the retail sector, such as establishing Special Economic Zones and providing financial assistance to SMEs. Business Recorder
