Telecom Tax Dispute Escalated to SIFC for Resolution

Islamabad, Pakistan – A longstanding tax dispute between provincial governments and Long Distance and International (LDI) telecom operators has been escalated to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for resolution.

LDI operators are challenging the legality of provincial taxes imposed on international incoming voice services, claiming they exceed provincial authority. Despite ongoing negotiations, no resolution has been reached. Profit

The Ministry of IT has intervened in the dispute, seeking the SIFC’s assistance to resolve the matter. The Ministry has proposed the appointment of an impartial entity to conduct due diligence and provide recommendations.

The Law Division and the Attorney General of Pakistan have also been called upon to provide legal clarity on the matter, considering both domestic and international regulations governing telecom taxation.

The resolution of this dispute is crucial for the telecom industry and its contribution to Pakistan’s economy.
