Pakistan Sees Record Increase in Income Tax Filers

Islamabad, Pakistan:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a significant increase in the number of income tax return filers in Pakistan for the year 2023. The Active Taxpayer List (ATL) now stands at over 5.6 million, reflecting a growth of 60,000 taxpayers. 24 News

The FBR attributes this increase to several factors, including higher tax rates for non-filers, stricter measures introduced in the Finance Act 2024, and increased penalties for late filers. These measures have encouraged more individuals and businesses to file their returns before the September 30 deadline.

The FBR expects the number of active taxpayers to continue rising as the deadline for filing returns approaches. Late filers can expect to face strict penalties if they fail to submit their returns on time.
