FBR Imposes Major Penalty on Customs Officer for Misreporting

Karachi, Pakistan – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has imposed a major penalty on Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, an Inspector of Preventive Service, for gross negligence and misreporting in a transit trade consignment.

An inquiry conducted by the FBR revealed that Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, while serving as an Examiner at the Directorate of Transit Trade in Karachi, had inaccurately reported the quantity of banned goods in a Goods Declaration (GD) No. ITTK-AT-22606 dated February 20, 2024.  PkRevenue

The inquiry found that the officer had misreported the quantity of banned exhaust fans in the consignment, leading to the confiscation of the goods. The FBR initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Zulfiqar Ali under the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020.

Following a thorough investigation and a hearing, the FBR imposed a major penalty on Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, reducing him to a lower post and pay scale for one year. The officer has the right to appeal this decision within 30 days.

The FBR’s action serves as a warning to all customs officials to exercise due diligence and accuracy in their duties. The imposition of a major penalty underscores the FBR’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within its ranks.
