Islamabad, Pakistan: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Technology for People Initiative (TPI) of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to collaborate on the use of machine learning and data analytics for enhanced customs operations.
The partnership aims to improve the efficiency of the Customs Risk Management System, reduce human intervention, and ensure better regulatory compliance. By leveraging machine learning and data analytics, the FBR can enhance its ability to detect and prevent mis-invoicing and other illicit activities.
The collaboration will also extend to the design of a National Targeting Centre (NTC), a platform used globally for information sharing and targeting by customs and other agencies. The NTC will help profile and target individuals, entities, and conveyances involved in the movement of illicit goods.
The Chairman FBR emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between public sector organizations and academia to develop innovative solutions. The TPI aims to bridge the gap between research and policymaking by providing open access to data and research. FBR
