Karachi, Pakistan: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline to October 31, 2024.
The KCCI cited the engagement of business community members in chamber election activities and technical issues with the IRIS portal as reasons for the request. Many taxpayers faced difficulties in accessing and using the IRIS system, hindering their ability to file their returns. The News
The KCCI emphasized the need for the FBR to improve the efficiency and capacity of the IRIS system to ensure a smooth filing process. They also called for simplification of the filing procedures to reduce the burden on taxpayers and encourage more individuals to become filers.
While the FBR has announced stricter measures for non-filers, the KCCI believes that it is equally important to address the challenges faced by compliant taxpayers in timely filing their returns. By extending the deadline and improving the IRIS system, the FBR can facilitate compliance and ensure a fair and efficient tax system.
