How to Add Your Business to NTN via FBR Portal?

You must have an existing NTN. If not, register for one first on the FBR website.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Access IRIS: Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk and log in using your credentials.

  2. Navigate to Registration Forms:

    • Click on the “Registration” tab.
    • Under “Forms,” select “181 – Form of Registration Filed for Modification Income Tax.”
  3. Select Tax Period:

    • Choose the appropriate tax year (e.g., 2024 for the period July 2023 – June 2024).
    • Click “Continue.”
  4. Access the Business Tab: The “Form of Registration Filed for Modification” will open. Go to the “Business” tab.

  5. Add New Business Details:

    • Click the “+” button to “Add New Business Detail.”
    • Business Name: Enter the name of your new business.
    • Acquisition Date: Enter the date you started the business (you can use the current date).
    • Capacity: Select “Owner” if you own the business.
    • Principal Activity: Select “Principal Activity” (unless you need Sales Tax or FED registration at this stage).
    • Section/Category: Choose the appropriate business category (e.g., “General Order Supplier,” “Information Technology,” “Trader,” “Manufacturer”). Use the search function if needed.
    • Start Date of Business: Enter the business start date (using the current date is recommended).
    • Click “OK.”
  6. Link Business Address:

    • In the “Business” tab, if no business address is showing, click “Link Business Address.”
    • If the business address is the same as your home address: Select the existing property.
    • If the business address is different: Click “Add Other Property.”
      • Property Type: Select the type of property (Residential, Commercial, Industrial).
      • Property Details: Provide details like house/flat/apartment, measurement unit (Marla, sq. ft., etc.), and area (optional).
      • Full Address: Enter the complete business address. Use the city search to select the correct city/town.
      • Capacity: Select your capacity (Owner, Tenant, Leaseholder, etc.). If the property is not in your name, select the appropriate option (e.g., “Benami Lease,” “Tenancy”) and enter value in the share.
      • Select the newly added property and click “OK.”
  7. Add Attachments:

    • Go to the “Attachments” tab.
    • Click the “+” button to add each required document:
      • Evidence with 181 Form: Print and attach the modification form itself.
      • Proof of Tenancy/Ownership: Attach proof of ownership (if applicable). If renting, attach a rental agreement or any relevant document related to the property (even if in a family member’s name). This is a mandatory document.
      • Electricity Bill: Attach a recent electricity bill (not older than three months) for the business premises.
    • Click “Submit.”
  8. Verification:

    • The application will go to your “Outbox” and then to “Completed Tasks.” Wait approximately 15 minutes.
    • To verify the addition of the business, go to “Online Verifications” and select “Tax Payer Profile Inquiry.”
    • Search using your CNIC (without dashes). Enter the captcha and click “Verify.”
    • Your taxpayer profile will show your added business under “Business.”
