Islamabad, Pakistan: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has collected Rs647 million under the head of point-of-sales (POS) services fee since July 2023. Out of this amount, Rs309 million has been utilized for FBR employee welfare.
The FBR informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that the revenue from the POS fee was approved for various purposes, including funding the monthly price scheme for customers at integrated Tier-I retailers, enhancing the capacity of POS-related technical and logistical teams, media campaigns, and employee welfare.
Regarding the provinces’ authority to impose taxes on exports, the committee clarified that provinces have the constitutional authority to levy an Infrastructure Development Cess. However, it was noted that such taxes are generally not imposed on exports to promote exports and facilitate the flow of foreign exchange.
The committee discussed concerns raised by Senator Manzoor Ahmad regarding a 10% levy on transport and business operations between Pakistan and Iran. The FBR informed the committee that this issue has been communicated to the Ministry of Communications, which will address it with Iranian authorities.
The committee deferred discussions on this matter upon the request of Senator Manzoor Ahmad.
