FBR Automates SIM Restoration for Tax Filers

Islamabad, Pakistan: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken a significant step towards improving taxpayer convenience by automating the process of restoring mobile SIMs for tax-compliant citizens.

Under the new system, telecom operators will automatically reactivate the SIMs of individuals who have filed their income tax returns. This streamlined approach eliminates the need for manual intervention and ensures a quicker resolution for taxpayers.

To facilitate this process, the FBR has established a clear standard operating procedure (SOP) for issuing and implementing Income Tax General Orders (ITGOs). These orders will be communicated to telecom operators, who will be required to implement them promptly.

Taxpayers who have filed their returns and still face issues with their SIMs can lodge complaints with the concerned Commissioner for further investigation and resolution.

This initiative by the FBR is expected to enhance tax compliance and provide a more convenient experience for taxpayers in Pakistan.

  • Automatic SIM Restoration: The FBR has introduced a system where the SIMs of taxpayers who have filed their income tax returns will be automatically restored by telecom operators.
  • FBR-Telecom Collaboration: The FBR will share a list of tax filers with telecom operators to facilitate the restoration process.
  • Clear SOP for ITGO Implementation: The FBR has outlined a standard operating procedure for issuing and implementing Income Tax General Orders.

How It Works:

  1. Taxpayer Files Return: The taxpayer submits their income tax return to the FBR.
  2. FBR Shares List: The FBR shares a list of compliant taxpayers with telecom operators.
  3. SIM Restoration: Telecom operators reactivate the SIMs of compliant taxpayers within 1-2 business days.
  4. Grievance Redressal: If a taxpayer’s SIM remains blocked, they can file a complaint with the concerned Commissioner.

Benefits of the New System:

File your salary tax returns in Rs. 2750 only.

  • Simplified Process: Taxpayers no longer need to manually request SIM restoration.
  • Enhanced Convenience: Streamlined process for compliant taxpayers.
  • Improved Tax Compliance: Encourages timely tax filing to avoid SIM suspension.

This initiative by the FBR aims to improve taxpayer convenience and enhance tax compliance in Pakistan. By automating the SIM restoration process, the government aims to reduce administrative burden and promote a more efficient tax system.
