Islamabad, Pakistan – The Establishment Division has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman to take action against corrupt practices and inefficient elements within the FBR that may be discouraging foreign investment.
Following a complaint alleging corruption and misuse of assessment powers by certain FBR officials, the Establishment Division has initiated an investigation. This action comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif removed 25 FBR officers from their positions due to concerns about their financial integrity and competence.
The complaint highlights specific instances of incompetence, inefficiency, and arbitrary decisions by FBR officials, which have negatively impacted taxpayers and damaged the reputation of Pakistan’s taxation system. Business Recorder
The Establishment Division has emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency within the FBR. It has urged the FBR Chairman to take appropriate action against any officials found to be involved in corrupt practices.
The FBR’s actions or lack thereof in addressing these issues could have serious consequences for Pakistan’s economic well-being and its ability to attract foreign investment.
