Karachi, Pakistan: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has updated the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) for the tax year 2024, adding approximately 130,000 new taxpayers. The total number of active taxpayers now stands at 5.47 million.
The FBR has implemented a new strategy for updating the ATL, moving away from the annual March update to a real-time system. Taxpayers who file their returns on time will now be added to the ATL immediately, ensuring that their status is reflected accurately and promptly. Late filers may still be included but will be subject to a surcharge.
The FBR’s goal is to enhance tax compliance and streamline the tax system. By implementing stricter penalties for non-filers and offering incentives for timely filing, the FBR aims to increase revenue collection and improve the overall tax landscape.
The updated ATL reflects the FBR’s commitment to transparency and accountability. By providing real-time updates, the FBR is empowering taxpayers to understand their status and take necessary actions to remain compliant.
