The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of Pakistan has taken a significant step to improve tax compliance! In an effort to ensure individuals fulfill their tax obligations, the FBR has ordered to block the mobile phone SIMs of over 500,000 people who haven’t filed their income tax returns for the tax year 2023 via Income Tax General Order No. 01 of 2024.
Why the Block?
The FBR aims to encourage responsible tax citizenship and broaden the tax base. This action targets individuals who are liable to file tax returns but haven’t done so despite being on the FBR’s radar.
What Does This Mean for You?
- If you haven’t filed your income tax return for 2023 and your CNIC is linked to a blocked SIM card, you won’t be able to use your phone until you comply.
- The block applies to all mobile phone SIMs registered under your CNIC, regardless of the mobile operator.
- List of Inactive Taxpayers whose numbers are getting blocked.
How to Restore Your SIM Card:
There are two ways to regain access to your phone:
- File Your Income Tax Return: By filing your accurate tax return for 2023, you can demonstrate compliance and have your SIM card unblocked by the FBR.
- Contact FBR or Local Commissioner: If you believe there’s been a mistake, you can contact the FBR or the Commissioner Inland Revenue in your area to resolve the issue.
